Soccer fun....

I know it will come as a surprise to many of you, but I was not a soccer star athlete when I was in high school. Seriously... I really wasn't. Despite my lack of any real ability, I enjoyed sunday night's soccer match. Among the highlights:

-no major injuries, despite at least three major headshots on the ball. For a minute I thought the un-hurtable Jessie had actually been hurt. But I was mistaken.

-Good music. Nuke brought some good stuff. I got burned out on Christian radio 10 years ago when they stopped playing the music that I liked. At the time they were geared more toward old style Larwence Welk type stuff than what I liked to hear. So anytime I get to hear good Christain music it's a treat, and I really enjoyed it wednesday. I've got a list of music to buy now...thanks Nuke!

-Next time Rose Bike Girl Anna whatever she's called this week, will have to stop dangling spiders out the window and play with us.

-Jared landed an elbow to my sternum (bone right in the middle of my chest) and it was hurting to breathe yesterday. It's better now, and not cracked. But JBird.... I gotta hand it to you. I'll show a LITTLE more respect for you next time. (either that or I'll elbow you back, and sic Jessie on you....)

We probably won't make wed night this week. Too much driving around lately, plus classes start for Myriam and Me this week. Life's about to get a bit rougher.....

What are the odds?

It's been a tough summer in many respects.  I've been way too busy with class work, I'm trying to write a paper that I can't seem to finish, and everything seems to be breaking on me, costing me money and time.

Last night I fought and fought to get my 14 year old tractor working well enough to mow the yard, which was knee-high in many places.  I haven't been able to work on it due to rain (I have no garage), so I'm way behind on maintenance for it and the trucks.  So I Finally get things working right and start mowing.  I get five circles around the yard and feel like maybe...just MAYBE things are starting to work.  If I can get it mowed, I can trim the yard too (I know my trimmer works, I just had to buy a new one  ) The blades aren't cutting well, but they're cutting well enough to knock the crud down.  It's better than nothing.

The blades were also moving well enough to hit small rock, sending it 30 feet, shattering my truck window.

Yep....that's right.  It's happened again.

What are the odds?  Apparently pretty good.....DOH!

Reality Check

I really don't like the "holy war" between some Mac and PC users.  I think it gets silly.  But this is too unbelievable NOT to post:

"Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine"

-Bill Gates.  Feb. 2007

I'd post more, but it's hard to type when doubled over in laughter.

Daylight Savings woes

In case ya'll didn't know Daylight savings time is different this year.  It starts early and ends later.  For a guy like me who can get seriously depressed when the sun is gone (like now) I tend to enjoy daylight savings time.  So that's OK.  Here's the unfortunate part though:

Computers have to be changed and updated for this to work.  Otherwise your computer's time won't be correct, and that can throw a LOT of things out of whack.  If you own a Mac, you're fine.  If you run windows, you're not.  Here's what bugs me:  This change was announced a LONG time ago.  Apple fixed their systems a while back, so did IBM. Yes Nuke, most linux is OK too.  We spent mere minutes on those.

That leaves....Micro$oft.  In the last two weeks alone, I've received NINE information updates with conflicting and incomplete information.  This change is coming in 6 weeks, and we STILL don't have a plan for our 200+ windows servers, not to mention the 5000 client computers on campus.  It's not as easy as patching either.  We have to patch clients, servers and manually run utilities on both!  (that's the latest anyway)

What put me over the edge is an e-mail I got last night with the subject line "changes coming in DST issue".  This after we spent hours on this issue yesterday.

oh well.... I guess it's job security.  I'll have to spend extra time on my mac tonight for a sanity break!

Ice!!!!

I have to admit.  I like icy weather.  My wife is convinced that I haven't grown up yet (as-if).  But I love it.  I even went out driving just to slip and slide around.  We don't get that opportunity very often.

It's too bad about church tonight, but it's best to be safe about things.  Is everyone enjoying their day off?
